Individuals on the autism spectrum respond well to activities that are regular and predictable. Our programs are highly ordered with consistent rewards, enabling us to provide autism help to those who are on the high functioning end of the spectrum. Studies show that individuals on the autism spectrum commonly display weaknesses in short-term memory, processing speed and logic and reasoning skills. Training specifically addresses these key cognitive deficits associated with PDD, autism, or Asperger.

Brain Training for people with Autism, PDD, Asperger’s & Other Syndromes

Cognitive skills training can help children and adults with Autism, PDD, or Asperger’s Syndrome as many respond well to treatment that is regular and predictable. At The Brain Workshop, our Brain Training program is highly ordered and structured for success. Student programs are individually designed and are delivered one-on-one by skilled and sensitive trainers. Progress is regular, systematic, and can be tracked and recognized by the child. So if you seek autism help center, or help with other syndromes, our program produces multi -year gains in critical skills such as short-term memory, processing speed, logic and reasoning skills – skills that most people within the Autism spectrum display deficiencies in.

Asperger’s

Asperger’s Syndrome is an Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD. Neurobiological disorder is named for Viennese doctor Hans Asperger who was the  first to recognize and study the condition in 1944.

Asperger’s Cause

Scientists and doctors generally agree Asperger’s Syndrome (AS) is caused by abnormalities in the brain and that there are many possible reasons those abnormalities occur including:

  • Genetic predisposition: Studies show AS runs in families.
  • Environmental: Some researchers believe toxins, chemical overload, allergies, or yeast overgrowth can lead to irregularities in the brain.
  • Medical conditions: Some medical conditions, such as epilepsy, are more common in people with ASDs. Some researchers believe immune system dysfunction can lead to the changes in the brain that cause Autism.

Diagnosis

Three main symptoms must be present—in most cases before the age of three—for the proper diagnosis of an ASD are:

  1. Impairments in social skills
  2. Impairments in communication
  3. Ritualistic or repetitive activities and interests

Treatment and therapies

Treatment includes psychotherapy, behavior modification therapy, social skills training, education interventions, diet modification, medication, and cognitive skills training.

There is no cure for Autism Spectrum Disorders. But, intense one-one-one cognitive skills training can help people with Asperger’s move much closer to recovery where the effects of the disorder may be hardly noticeable. The therapy strengthens weak mental skills, leading to a faster, more efficient learner who’s more socially adept, happier, and more confident.

Symptoms and characteristics

The disorder can range from mild to severe and so can the symptoms, ranging from extreme in one person to absent in another. The most obvious and common trait is severe trouble with social situations. In general, traits of AS include:

  • Repetitive behaviors
  • Need for routines and sameness
  • Poor social skills
  • Problems making eye contact
  • Inability to read nonverbal cues
  • Lack of emotional and social reciprocity
  • Intense interest in one area
  • Inability to make same-age friends
  • Sensitivity to light, sound, taste, smell, and touch
  • Normal IQ, often with great ability in one area
  • Difficulty determining personal space
  • Clumsiness
  • Extensive vocabulary
  • Rigid or monotonous speech patterns
  • Eccentric behavior
  • Lack of emotional spontaneity
